Part 1

• This episode takes place shortly after Scion, and Conner begins Smallville High, as implied by the end of that episode.
• Conner begins helping out at the Torch like Clark did when he went to high school.
• Zoe is revealed as a fan of Chloe Sullivan, planning to continue her work on the Wall of Weird.
• Alexander joins Lionel as he did in Beacon.

Part 2

Alex holds a gun to Clark and Conner.

• Conner is strung up in a cornfield like Clark was in the first episode of Smallville.
• Alexander is put in a similar situation to Beacon where Clark and Tess convince him to not listen to Lionel, so he becomes good.
• Conner and Alexander have a conversation similar to Clark and Lex's at the end of Hug.

Part 3

Eric prepares to beat up Clark.

• The subplot of Conner getting involved in baseball is inspired by the plot of Hothead, except Clark supports it, remembering his arguments with his father from the same episode.
• Alex and Tess have a duel for fun, done mostly to cheer Alex up, however, unlike the episode Hothead where Lex lost to Lionel, Alex wins the fencing match.
• Eric Marsh from Witness returns and steals the stash of Kryptonite Clark and Pete buried at the end of that episode, featuring a flashback to help explain who he is.
